Progressive Shutter System: A mechanical shutter system that provides Progressive Scan performance while utilizing an interlaced scanning system, digital still images will be sharp and clear with excellent definition. InfoLithium Battery
When the action rolls, you need the power to capture it. Smarter batteries help you prepare. Sony InfoLithium Batteries communicate with your Handycam camcorder's AccuPower meter, telling you how much shooting time remains. And because they resist "memory effect," Sony InfoLithium Batteries do not prematurely reduce recording time. It's a smart way to be ready for action.

Megapixel Performance
Of all the world's consumer camcorders, Sony was the first to break the megapixel barrier. Working with high-resolution recording and high-precision Carl Zeiss or Sony custom optics, the benefits are dramatic. You'll see amazing detail on everything you shoot. Every blade of grass. Every strand of hair. The names on the back of player uniforms. And megapixel resolution is also a great benefit in Sony's Digital still camera function (Memory Mode).

Digital Still Memory Mode
Capture digital still images directly onto Memory Stick® media for easy transfer to e-mail, printing, or sharing with compatible Memory Stick devices. Digital still images can be captured while in Memory Mode, or images from the videotape can be captured onto Memory Stick media. This feature provides the Dual Function of having one camera for video and still images, and provides the user with a whole new world of imaging possibilities.

MPEG Movie Mode
Originally found on step-up Sony Digital Still Cameras, Sony presents another camcorder first -- MPEG Movie Mode for select Handycam Camcorders. Capture MPEG digital video and store it directly to your Memory Stick Media. Movie length ranges from 5 seconds to the length allowed by the capacity of your memory stick with MPEG Movie EX. Take the "Best Of" scene recorded on video tape, for example -- the groom kissing the bride on the wedding day, convert it to an MPEG Movie and share it with family and friends via the internet.

Super Nightshot 0 Lux System
Low light? No problem. Absolutely no light? No sweat! Now you can capture video even in total darkness (0 lux). Sony's NightShot system uses infrared light to capture images invisible to the human eye. You can shoot subjects like sleeping babies up to 10 feet away in total darkness.

SteadyShot Picture Stabilization
There's a world of difference between experiences that are moving and the ones that are simply shaky. To encourage the first and prevent the second, Sony invented SteadyShot picture stabilization. It smoothes and steadies your images without degrading picture quality. Sony does it with motion sensors --- a more accurate system than many other camcorders on the market.

The MiniDV Format
MiniDV, the most common type of digital camcorder, records video using the standard DV-format. It's the preferred format for broadcast-quality video, and it is also highly regarded for its high audio and still image quality. This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12th the size of a standard VHS tape. Tapes come in lengths of 60 and 80 minutes at standard speed (SP), with use of lower speed mode (SP) increasing time to 90 and 120 minutes while reducing resolution.

I like the Sony DCR-TRV33 Camcorder Very much.,2008-08-26
I like the Sony DCR-TRV33 Camcorder Very much. One thing that I like about this camcorder is that I can put video clips on my computer files two different ways. I can input video files to my computer with the AV cable any files that I put on my memory stick. I also can input video files to the computer using my Firewire cable. Some Camcorders do not have the firewire connecter and some do not have a memory stick that allows you to do a video file over one minute in length. The Sony DCR-TRV33 can do both and does a very fine job doing it. I highly recommend this Camcorder and feel it is quality plus.
don't waste money on a camera that only lasts 1.5 years2005-11-13
I got EXACTLY the same problem as many of other victims had experienced. All of sudden, after very scarce and gentle use, the camera only showed verticle lines and went completely blind.

What is the good of a camcord if it can't even last more than 1.5 years with less than 10 hours of recording?

I would say that SONY is KNOWINGLY selling defective products to consumers and all of us who had problems should file class-action law suit against SONY for damages.

Any lawyers who are reading this should seriously consider this. You may reap big dollars while helping us to vent some anger.
Sony has finally responded!!!2005-10-04
I have had the same problem with my DCR TRV33. I've called Sony previously and they said send it to the repair center but I had to pay for S&H and repair. I thought I was SOL. I keep on checking though, hoping that Sony would see the error in their ways. And maybe from all the unhappy consumers or class action lawsuit, they responded FINALLY! I'm sending it in tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Another TRV33 died2005-08-28
My TRV33 lasted 18 months. While it worked the camera was absolutely excellent.

However, I went to use it this morning and the record screen was totally blank.

I haven't contact Sony myself, but by the sounds of this forum, I think I would be wasting my time if I did. If the reports in this forum are correct, Sony don't seem to care that this is happening.

I won't buy a Sony again.
Self destruct wasn't listed as a feature2005-08-05
8 months after I bought this camera it lost the ability record video. In fact the screen is black. I can still use the menus and watch old videos but somehow I am looking for a camera than can take pictures. Most camera should be expected to break the 8 month mark with out breaking especially with out outside help.

Digital camera batteries
Batteries are vital for all photography and makiing sure that you have a spare set is essential if you intend to take alot of pictures. Print digital also recommend that when deciding upon a digital camera keep in mind what sort of batteries it takes. Does it take rechargeable batteries, are the batteries built and do you have to plug it into the mains, or does the camera only take standard batteries, if so then it can become exspensive if you are a keen photographer and use the camera alot. There are three types of rechargeable batteries: NiCD, NiMH and Lithium-Ion. Nickel Metal Hydride are the most popular rechargeable batteries at present. They hold more charge than their counter parts NiCD and don't suffer from memory effect. The one small down fall of these batteries is that they will loose a small amount of charge even if they are not being used, so be sure to check the batteries before using them. When you purchase a new digital camera make sure to ask what type of battery ...
